The decision

The permission sits on the action, not on a desk: every page, field and button checks who may use it. Admins manage that tree themselves, so an approval that should not happen cannot happen quietly.

Problem

During my compulsory military service, from 2015 to 2017, the Navy ran its budget on paper. Budget letters were printed, signed, and walked between departments by hand.

What I did

My first project there was a searchable phone catalogue. Then I built a web app to replace the paper: permissions per page, per field and per action, a permission tree the admins managed, a central bill archive, and Jasper reports. Java, Spring Boot and JSF.

Result

After my service ended, they called me back twice, with a promotion and a payment for what the project had changed.
